Though it should not be difficult to find this setting any tips would be greatly appreciated. You are brilliant. You can tell it to install everything that doesn't require a reboot without asking the users, or to install the recommended updates as well as the security updates. All great for me, as it means I don't have to go around 175 computers and run windows update any more :-) Jon -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of jwcolby Sent: 11 February 2008 12:12 To: 'Discussion of Hardware and Software issues' Subject: Re: [dba-Tech] Never set your system to auto-updates I stopped doing it automatically (the install part) because it would cause my SQL Server to reboot right in the middle of trying to get work done. I initially assumed there had been a power outage but then became aware that none of the clocks had suffered the same fate. It took a while to figure out what had happen but after checking the event log it was noted that a MS auto update had gone through on the server.... Yes, I know what you are going to say; "Never auto update on; and especially not server." There had been an auto update and the update affected the active directory and these effects rippled through to each station and each station was auto-rebooted. So never have MS auto-update on...
