[dba-Tech] Clicked button event in Word

I want to use a custom button (probably on the toolbar) to stop a process in 
Word. Now, I suppose I can use Timer to continually check for the button's 
clicked state, but is there a more abrupt way -- just when the button's 
clicked -- STOP whatever VBA processing is going on? A timer seems like a 
rather clunky way to do it.
