[dba-Tech] html ????? question

A friend is building a website using a service that uses templates and lets 
you add your own content and pictures.

She's trying to insert the following content:

Writers/Judy Blume

but the / character displays a box instead of the / character.

I suggested enclosing the / character in quotations, both double and 
single -- but it didn't work.

Any clues?
