This is XP right? Mine doesn't show that option. Might that be because I've
already installed Winzip? Does that remove the in-built option?

Rigth click in a folder in Explorer and select New - then look right at the
bottom of the sub- 
menu. Select Compressed (zipped) Folder. It just creates a Zip file. 

Then you can manage it like an ordinary folder including dragging and
dropping into and out 
of it.
