Rocky - Somewhere I've seen an error log associated with Windows updates. Perhaps someone here knows how to get at it. I could just ignore it like I have been for the past few months. For Windows it is usually a good idea to turn your security program's active protection off. Try this when you have 10 minutes: Immediately after rebooting, download MSXML 4.0 SP2 KB927978 from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=24B7D141-6CDF-4FC4- A91B-6F18FE6921D4 Save it to your desktop. Do not RUN it. Open Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. (The Show updates box at the top next to Currently installed programs and updates must be checked to see the installed Windows Updates) Uninstall KB927978 from Add/Remove Programs. It will be listed as MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978) Reboot Now uninstall KB925672 from Add/Remove Programs. It will be listed under Windows XP - Software Updates at the bottom Reboot NOTE: If either KB927978 or KB925672 are not listed in Add/Remove Programs (and Show updates is checked), then please show hidden files, folders, and system files. Using either Windows Explorer or My Computer, navigate to the WINDOWS directory (folder). Check to see if either $NtUninstallKB927978$ and/or $NtUninstallKB925672$ are present. Open the folders and then open the spuninst folder and run spuninst.exe for each of the installed updates, rebooting between each uninstall. Now double click on the file msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe (which you saved to your desktop earlier )to install it. Reboot KB927978 generates randomly named folders (a combination of alphanumeric characters) on the root drive (usually C:\) during each attempt at installing it. The folders contain the installation log file. You may have a few by now :o) You may deleted them.
