Well I got them both and the amount of information is staggering. Second
only to the amount of information I didn't understand. :)

But they're probably a good thing to have in the back pocket in case of a
really odd problem.

Try Process Explorer and Autoruns from Microsoft. They work together if you
have them both. Like Task Manager on Steroids. In fact one option allows you
to replace TM with PE. Right click menu has a number of helpful options one
being Search Online (which uses your browser's default search engine).
Autoruns is a startup manager that shows you everything that is
automatically starting on your PC each time. Right Click to Process Explorer
is very helpful at times.

Very highly recommended, I use these everyday on every computer I work on.
No installation, I have them on my USB stick. On my own PCs I place them in
Windows\System32\ and then make a shortcut to those on my Start Menu/Desktop

Max:

Good link. I was using the task manager to find out who was hogging the cpu
- it was my firewall. Don't know why. I've used the TM to find out what
processes were running and clean out the unnecessary ones. Any process you
don't know you can paste into a Google search and find out. Right now I have
46 processes running but most of them take 0 cpu.

Rocky, you were concerned about cpu usage a day or so ago.
This link shows how to monitor disk usage / thrashing etc.
You may be able to use it to show what processes are using the cpu.
