Well, for the *best*, go for SuperMicro - though Asus and Gigabyte are
certainly good. Best skip Intel, Abit, and some others - all of which work
fine *most* of the time ...

If you do decide to go to build your own I would recommend an ASUS
motherboard... even over GigaByte. Very fast, reliable with all the latest
bells-and-whistles and all OSs are compatible. Jim

Did you read John Robinson's reply over on Tech? Whooo. I am thinking hard
now.

I agree with Dan. By the time you have finished building your own
over-clocked system, with 64 bit quad, 16 GB of RAM and with an oil cooler,
you will be asking yourself how you ever lived before. ;-)

Jim

PS I am teasing...

Hi Max,

I built a PC about 2 years ago and did enjoy it! I think I got a little
better value than buying something with equivalent specs.

Of the top of my head - this looks like a fast system. You might price the
components separately to find out if you're getting a deal. And a BD-ROM
drive would cost a bit wouldn't it?

If you are going to put this on the floor, you'll want a different case so
that your USB, firewire, and audio ports are near the top instead of at the
bottom.

Good Luck!
Dan

Hi Rocky,

No, I won't enjoy it - that is work...

I was trying to maximise the money I had to spend on the really useful bits
by making use of an existing box with all the boring bits.

This sounds really appealing..

Why build? Wouldn't buying a high end like a Dell off the internet be
faster, cheaper, more reliable? Or is building this box something you'll
enjoy?

Hi All,
I need some HELP please to choose some equipment. Hardware is not my
forte..

I want to buy from here http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products

They are local and I can pop along to get the stuff.

I need a compatible set of
a. Motherboard
b. Memory - full populated with as much as possible.
c. Processor - fast a possible
d. video card.

I have an existing system that I am going to cannibalise - it has an ATX
form existing motherboard and will provide case, DVD, etc.

No drives required as I have tons of them, BUT if the above system only
supports SATA then I can go for that too and use my others as USB external
drives.

I am assuming that the motherboard will come with a suitable PSU.

Many thanks

Max
