Cool. Are most of the drives the same size and electronics? Someone said that it's probably an IDE drive but that don't mean much to me. As opposed to what? Is it possible to buy a replacement drive for a laptop that WON'T work (if it fits)? I have been trained in Dell and IBM and the drives just slide out and clip back in. One very important trick: If you have to open the laptop up to get access to the HD and it is an older model, flip it over on its face, do a layout of the screw positions on a sheet of paper and with very small Phillips screw drivers or jewelers' drivers. Write the screw sizes of each hole... there can be up to 6 different type of screws depending on the model. Be careful to not lose any screws as they can be very small. Once the screws have been removed the back will just snap out and hard drive will be easy to remove. With some of the newer model laptops, a hard drive can be removed by removing a single panel on the back and then the drive is just slid out and a new drive slid in... 30 minute job. Is it worth replacing? Are there lots of drives that can slide in there or do I have to go to Compaq and pay too much for a replacement because they've done something 'unique' to stop the third party replacements? I've already replaced the machine with a Dell Inspiron 15. So I don't need it fixed. But I was going to send it back to school with my son as a spare since their academic lives are completely dependent on their computers now.
