I have not heard about that. A friend recently updated his main servers to SCSI drives.. There is SCSI, 50 pins but never as far as I know used in laptops and generally only in server class machines, IDE, 40 pins (one missing pin to indicate which way to put the cable in) and the relatively new SATA, which looks like a telephone/LAN cable jack (This is the most common standard today and might replace the IDE.). There use to be a number of other type of connections but they are long since defuncked.
