No matter how many times I look it up I don't remember what it stands for. Essentially it's a media device sharing standard. For instance I use Nero's MediaHome on my XP machine because Windows Media Player 11 does not support DLNA. My Sony Bravia is on my network and I can connect to my media files via Nero MediaHome. I can show all of our photos on the big screen and play my music via my Bravia. I could also connect to this with any other DLNA equipment such as audio gear and portable devices. Of course MediaHome takes some resources that wouldn't have to be used if Windows XP supported DLNA. It's similar to what Mac claims their media and devices can do but its and industry standard not a proprietary one. WMP, WinAmp nor iTunes support DLNA. But there are some plugins for WinAmp and WMP that claim to allow for this. I just can't seem to make them work correctly. That is why I'm hyped about Windows 7 - it actually solves a problem for me :o) -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Tydda Jon - Slough Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 11:26 AM To: Discussion of Hardware and Software issues Subject: Re: [dba-Tech] Some of the cool features with Windows7 What's DLNA? I think you're correct MS got this right. One other feature that hasn't been touted a lot but is very nice is that Windows (Media Player) is now DLNA compliant. This allows it to share libraries with any DLNA device. My Sony TV is DLNA compliant so I will now be able to eliminate a slew of (glitch) software it takes to play videos, show pictures and play music from my computer on my TV. -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Jim Lawrence Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 9:24 AM To: 'Discussion of Hardware and Software issues' Subject: [dba-Tech] Some of the cool features with Windows7 TechRepublic just posted this list of cool features from Windows7: http://i.techrepublic.com.com/downloads/dl_10_win7_tools.pdf. I have been working with the product for a few days and think MS might just have done it right. _______________________________________________ dba-Tech mailing list dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com This communication and its attachments, if any, may contain confidential and privileged information the use of which by other persons or entities than the intended recipient is prohibited.
