Hi Gustav: That is the trouble with these rack mounted units. They all tend to be so over-clocked that without the appropriate fans they would fail within a few minutes ;-) In all server rooms I have been in they are the reason the telephones have their volumes turned up to the max. ...and I am yet to run across a quiet unit. If the client wants quiet they buy a server in a box. If you do find one let me know...but I bet the unit will be priced appropriately. Hi Jim Exactly. All pizza servers I've experienced have been equipped with half a dozen tiny fans running at full thrust spreading a noise like a vacuum cleaner. 2U and 3U units haven't been much better. Fujitsu manufactures some small extremely quiet servers, though not for rack mounting. /gustav >>> accessd at shaw.ca 05-05-2011 18:14 >>> You looking for something that doesn't sound like a jet airplane? ;-) Jim -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Gustav Brock Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2011 5:35 AM To: dba-tech at databaseadvisors.com Subject: [dba-Tech] Rack server, quiet? Hi all Does anyone know of a server model for 19" rack mount that doesn't come with a noise level of an A/C system? It should be quiet as a modern desktop machine. /gustav _______________________________________________ dba-Tech mailing list dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
