While my experience is limited pretty much to Ubuntu and Mint, and so I can't opine about how far the others have come, I will go so far as to suggest that pretty much anybody, even a brand-new user, can set up a Linux system now. It takes nothing more than booting from a CD or DVD. If you can do that, you can run Linux. Obviously such a user may never see a command line, but then he has no need to. A.
