" but several features I needed to defeat " Which ones? I went to W7, and didn't notice much difference and didn't find I had to do any configuring at all. But I'm not an OS power user. If we needed this lesson, we needed it as lemmings. Upgrading two boxes from XP to Win7, I found thart Win7 offered no features I needed, but several features I needed to defeat in order to be able to use the OS at all. Setting up Win8 on my wife's new laptop, I had the same experience, only worse. M$oft's "upgrade cycle" is mostly a euphemism for endless hype and endless bugs masquerading as endless improvements.
