Linux is a very secure OS. It is the most secure OS but it is only as secure as how well proper security is meet. Over the years many Linux system support people have become so laxed that they have ignored the many obvious vulnerabilities such as basic setup rules. Rules like isolate your FTP connections, blocking access to the root passwords and maintain your software packages with the latest releases. Some core development packages have become sources of easy access to all sort of remote attacks...PHP of course comes to mind...older versions of the product have a terrible reputation. Many a system support person, even on a best Linux servers have learned this lesson the hard way. Here is the partial confession of a Linux support guru: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/linux-and-open-source/linux-is-more-secure-but-not-invulnerable/?tag=nl.e101&s_cid=e101&ttag=e101&ftag=TRE684d531 Jim
