Yes, that is about it. It is a municipal code thing. There is one cost for building a new dwelling and a different, I suspect a lot cheaper cost, for a renovation. Meet the new owners yesterday, offered to help if they needed it. I also got a bunch of good pieces of the siding removed so I can put a new skirting around our back porch. All that is needed if for the pieces to be cut, painted and installed...it should be a two day job. It is a massive job. They have been dumping one 500 cu ft of waste container, a day, for almost a month now. They have also re-wired and plumbed the house, run in gas lines for the fire-places, added and removed walls...takes me back a few years. I assume the new buyers knew about that from the walk-through? Upon checking, it had sold for about 250K below market value and we wondered why. It is a fairly large house with five bedrooms and three bathrooms. We have never been in the house other than in the entrance and in the kitchen which we entered from the back porch. The new neighbours have moved in and as they reported the house has had major smoke damage...the previous people smoked inside the house. To that end the new people, a couple of teachers with two kids, have gutted the house. Every bathroom, the kitchen, the walls, all fixtures, the carpets and other flooring has ended up in dumpsters. Now they are removing all the windows and siding as well. Only the base frame will remain...I guess this what happens to a house that the owners did not well maintain for thirty years. It will probably cost the $250K the new owners saved to make the house livable again.
