 Hi Jim --

I have used Disk2VHD ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx ) to backup/virtualize all kinds of MS Windows systems including Win8, and it worked well for me.
Carefully read all notes (in italics) on referred above web page.
