Hi Gustav,
I must confess that I have no idea what you are doing with progman.exe that
windows explorer couldn't replicate. Could you please explain further?

Subject: [dba-Tech] Program Manager (Fences) for Win7

Hi all

Some of my fellow users use WinXP virtual machines to run a bunch of
applications. These are so many that I've used the good ol' PROGMAN.EXE of
Windows 3.11/Windows 95 to keep the shortcuts organized.
But these WinXP VMs are about to be phased out and replaced by Win7. Program
Manager doesn't run on Win7 (a hack exists but that is beyond what I'll deal
with). So I've looked for alternatives.

I've found Stardock Fences. But it attacks the Desktop itself which is not
so well. Further, a bug exists that if you create folders in folders (which
you have to to mimic Program Manager), the background of these "folder
portals" are black if running in a terminal session. Also, you can't
minimize the fences/windows which means you have to move them around all the
time.

So could anyone recommend an alternative? Nothing fancy is needed beyond the
basic features of the original Program Manager.

/gustav
