[dba-Tech] MS: Giga update

Hi Gustav:

I agree full-heartedly...add to that a bit of common sense and everyone should be more than secure.

I have been looking at proxy services but have been very apprehensive as some look dangerous. Have you had any issues with "privoxy"? Would you strong recommend it? If so, I will give it a try....thanks for posting.

Jim

Hi Jim

Probably nothing can run safely on its own. But behind a firewall, using Secure DNS, having antimalware on always updated workstations, using and ad-blocker, running with tracking protection or private browsing, and having educated users, we feel perfectly safe.

Hi Gustav:

That is truly sad but it seems that the more complex the product is the more likely it is to be hacked.

On the internet there are whole market places that deal strictly with selling hacks. These sites are not illegal and they are not likely to be shut down as groups like the NSA, GCHQ and government like Russia, China, Israel, France as well as hundreds of shady companies troll and bid on these exploits. According to someone, in the know, some exploits have sold in the hundreds of thousands of dollars in US currency.

Some have suggested it is impossible for any detection program really work. Alan Solomon, the god-father of the virus detection programs, has abandoned the concept that true security can ever be assured.

http://blogs.techworld.com/war-on-error/2014/05/anti-virus-pioneer-alan-solomon-thinks-anti-virus-is-dead-he-uses-linux-instead/index.htm

Do you think that any OS, now or in the future can offer true security?

Jim

Hi all

This month the MS updates for Win8.1, Office 2013, and Visual Studio 2013 exceeded 1 GB.

I hope this is a one-time happening.
