[dba-Tech] Strange happens

Hi Rocky:

Nothing more than usual... The computer actually runs very fast but when scanning the network it runs like a dog. (At the command prompt a command like "Net View" can crank away for an hour.)

OTOH, the Linux boxes do these full network scans in a few minutes and even the main router has a complete list of all the IP addresses of any computer with shares. I am wondering, is it something I have not resolved properly, or some security issue, at least as far as Windows is concerned?

Jim

Does the task manager process list show something running taking a lot of
cycles?

Hi All:

My network has bee running oddly. (no malware issues.)

My Server2008 enterprise edition, for the most part, has run very nicely for
years but when observing the network all the computers do not necessarily
appear, in the network tab. But if the computer is left long enough all the
printers and computers eventually show up. Has anyone else seen this on
their network?

Jim
