Could not agree more. There's just no excuse not to have GPS tracking. It's completely ubiquitous these days. I'm sure that all of the victims had smartphones with it so why not the airplanes? However, I presume that we all now also recognise that planes need an additional robust location identifier. You are correct that there is no need to mix up the two, I was doing that. With this in mind, all that airlines need to do is design, build and install a second device, the 365 day GPS tracker to existing aircraft.
