The JavaScript language has evolved over almost twenty years. It is still an evolving project and there are many flavours with various features and programming methods. There are supposed to be standards but a standard does not dictate the method of achieving that standard so internally the coding may be dramatically different. That problem is being addressed via the new JS Foundation (under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation)

Maybe in a few years a single solid all encompassing JavaScript will emerge and much of the current fragmentation will disappear.
