Its confidential but much much less than a commercial outfit. The non enterprise bits of SharePoint are free still I believe. Cloud versions are available at much less.

But yours is a big-budget (or at least existing budget) outfit. Do you
happen to know off-hand what your university is paying for the license to
SharePoint for all those users? For some, perhaps many, that might be a
tipping point.
