[dba-Tech] Deleting your Facebook account

Hi All:

Facebook like all other businesses which handle large numbers of people are being harvested by the NSA...period. There is no way that any business in the US can legally refuse to surrender their data, once requested...anything deemed in the interest of national security. Refusal is treason.

China is just as paranoid as the US deep state. The only difference, I can see is that, the Chinese government actually blocks sites they deem as potential security leaks or anti-state government sites. We here are slightly different, in that we just monitor divergent sites, black list them and attempt to disrupt them as much as possible. It all end up the same of course.

Things to never do...never have any of your websites hosted in China, the US, in Russia or the UK. Europe still have laws that protect personal rights and freedoms. The country with the strongest personal freedom laws, I understand, is Switzerland but the rest of Europe is all fairly good. Canada, went to the dark side when it allowed the passage, within the previous Harper government and then continued to maintain bill C-51, in compliance with US norms.

I know this is a tech group and not supposed to be political but we as techs are most affected when governments start intruding into areas that they have no understanding of. The Facebook breach was horrible but all our social networking has been completely breached for some time. But it is good to see that people are finally catching up and catching on.

Jim

Obviously so, but on the other hand millions of people didn't know what
they were getting into when they joined Facebook. FB claims well over a
billion users, and who knows how much of their data has been harvested.
Nothing can be done to un-harvest the data that these many millions have
freely provided. But something can be done about the future: first, delete
your account, and second, replace the functionality with other software. I
shall detail these replacements in my next email.
