Do I? It's a Netgear WNDR4500v2... I don't know what it runs, just that I keep it up to date with firmware and access it through the web page 😊

Yes, Jon but you have one of these fancy routers with an Linux OS on it. ;-)
But that is not the only reason for using a VPN. Obscurity of originating location is another good reason.

I don’t use a VPN but my router sends all my traffic via OpenDNS, so I can control what kinds of things I don’t want on my network - bad advertising domains, drugs, malware etc. Changing that has done more good than installing any antivirus product ever has.
