Suddenly, this past weekend, Larry is unable to make any calls on his phone. When he attempts to dial out, he gets the message that he is out of range of the mobile network. That happens even though his phone is within a foot of my phone that is having no difficulty reaching that same mobile network. He can send and receive text messages. And, he was able to use the Verizon visual call facility to connect to my phone. When I place a call to his phone, it goes directly to voice mail, just as though the phone were turned off. I thought this might mean he had put it into airplane mode, but it isn't in airplane mode. I have looked through the settings, but am not finding anything that explains this behavior. I've also powered it all the way down and rebooted it - did not fix the problem. I've never seen this before in a cell phone. Has anyone on the list had this experience? Does anyone know what the issue may be? Thanks for any guidance you may offer. If so, does he have call via wifi enabled, and if so can he make that work? If that's the case, https://www.wirefly.com/guides/android-says-no-service-how-to-fix has some suggestions. Otherwise he might could walk the list at https://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/product-help/CT31903570-20150346492148 p. > > Regards, > T > From tinanfields at torchlake.com Sun May 9 12:01:43 2021 From: tinanfields at torchlake.com (Tina N Fields) Date: Sun, 9 May 2021 13:01:43 -0400 Subject: [dba-Tech] Cell phone puzzle In-Reply-To: References: <41f759ee-e3de-6212-2e9f-a806bb735d39@torchlake.com> Message-ID: <7de706df-9cdc-dcde-ef0f-0656857f6fe5@torchlake.com> Peter, Thank you for your response. We did finally find out it was a hardware failure - the SIM card reader failed. A replacement instrument has arrived and I have set it up for him. I apologize that I did not see your response until today. I thought nobody on the tech list had replied and I failed to post the resolution. Thank you again for responding. I have four machines, each tunning a different OS, and all but one cannot find my wireless router. Yes, I can create documents, but that is not why I bought it. I intended it to be my subsidiary locus, for such tasks as email, thus freeing up my other boxes for development projects. But Chromebook cannot even find my wireless network! Everybody else (i.e. Linux Mint, Win 10 and even Win 7) can, but Google Chromebook is apparently, as hardware, a dead duck. I want either a patch or a replacement that works!
