[dba-Tech] DropBox, Retirement, and other topics

I'm sorry Arthur! I'm glad you are on the mend now though. My niece suffered
a concussion recently too -- pep rally got a little too peppy -- a girl
behind her on the bleachers lost her balance and it was like dominos. Alyssa
ended up with a concussion and was out of school and work for a week. She
continued with a headache for several days after she was given the okay to
return to normal. Sounds like yours' was much worse though and I'm sorry
they didn't keep you for a few days! But, I kind of understand; no one
really wants to be in the hospital.

About storing in the cloud. Again, I didn't mean to give a short answer to
be curt. It was just a quick suggestion/question to glean a bit more
information if you wanted to consider that route. It wasn't meant to be
rude.

If email is out, there are a number of free ftp apps out there. I'd have to
look up what I was using last, if interested. Also, you could probably get a
lot of good recommendations from the list. However, ftp is no longer the
cat's meow in the data transfer world.

Do you have Microsoft 365? If so, you have a ton of space in the cloud. You
upload the file, send a link, they click the link, which takes them to the
app.

I'm almost positive that you can use OneDrive without owning 365.

As mentioned by others though, there are other free options out there. For
instance, you can share documents using Google Docs.

There are a lot of possibilities, such as DropBox -- you just sign up and
go.

I'll loo up HighTail and see what I can do.
Susan, if I knew how to do that I wouldn't have posed the question. I
thought that DropBox was one way to use the cloud, but what do I know?
A week ago -- no, 10 days ago, I suffered a fall, backwards to the hardwood
floor, and landed squarely on the back of my head, with a concussion. I
spent the next week in bed, barely able to make it to the bathroom, and to
the kitchen to feed the cats, and in each direction having to cling to
chairs etc. to complete the journey. I didn't even eat for three days -- too
much effort required, even to scramble an egg or toast a bagel. I couldn't
even answer the phone. Thankfully most of the symptoms have passed, and once
again I can type. As it happens, my current client and long-time friend is
familiar with what I've been going through. His son, a hockey player, got
banged in're ato the boards and suffered a concussion, so is familiar with
the turf, and he said, "Don't worry about our app. Fix yourself first and
when you are ready, we can continue. But not until you are ready."

Nobody so far has elected to respond to my question about Passing the Reins.
Is this because nobody but me has thought about this? This list is comprised
of a lot of, say, old;s hands at the game. More brutally, Death's Coming
Knocking at My Door. And yours too, soon. Have you planned an exit strategy
for your clients, a method of handing off your apps to someone who can take
your place and continue development/enhancements/etc.? And if not, why not?
Shouldn't that be part of our service to our clients?
