[dba-Tech] [dba-OT] Breaking into a Windows 8 COmputer

SSD life is not worth worrying about for consumers.
There are better and worse grades of SSDs no doubt. You find all kinds of opinions about that on the web 😉
I have plenty of Dell OptiPlexes of that vintage still in offices. Upgraded with a good SSD and increased RAM to minimum of 8GB and they work a charm. Most office PCs are really lightly used - Word, small Excel sheets, web browser, maybe an email client Outlook/Thunderbird and some QuickBooks (the old desktop program). The email client's probably push PC harder than anything anymore. (QuickBooks runs slow regardless of what components you.) I used a lot of Samsung EVO models which became hard to get for a while. I did use a less expensive brand - Silicon Power which I've had good luck with. Beware of the low end brands on Amazon though. I was very skeptical because I replaced so many for people who did use the cheapos. I'm happy with mine and have no fear of them dying and even if they do I have cloud backup running multiple times a day.

That hasn't been my experience. But I understand that they have error correcting firmware, kind of like the spinners marking a sector or track as dead. But JB could tell us more about that.
