[dba-VB] Where do I place documentation in source control?

I am writing documentation for a program (novel concept I know) and want to put it in source control 
so that it can be kept with the rest of the stuff.  My question is, do I "add existing item" and 
just pull it in to the solution?  I did that and it allows me to just double click the object and 
open the word document from right inside of the solution.  That's kind of nice.
