I know exactly what you mean. I made an email address that was
kathrynvista at ... That was for one purpose only, and that was NOT email. It
was for LogMeIn on my old Vista computer. I have not had the Vista computer
for two years, and LogMeIn Free ceased as of January 2014. 

I don't remember when it started, but it was before LogMeIn Free went away,
I started getting emails addressed to kathrynvista at ... So I called them and
asked if they had been compromised or sold their email addresses. They said
no, and I believe them, but we were both in a quandary as to how  that
address got out there.  I still have no idea.
