[AccessD] ODBC connection to AS400

Using the IBM client Access ODBC driver I have links to tables residing on
the AS400. If I open these tables to view the AS400 gives me exclusive use
of the file. The problem is it never releases the table for use by others
until I quit Access. Does anyone know how to release the table? Similarly,
if someone has use of the table and I try to open it I get an ODBC
connection failed error. What is the correct way to trap for this error? TIA
