[AccessD] MDB vs SQL ODBC

Hi All
Just a quick Question, Am I right in thinking that if you use an Access
MDB with FE/BE over a network the Front End has to pull the Back End
over to the local machine then action it ?
If so does an SQL Server ODBC Back End Behave in the same way ?
