A router (like the netgear the I use) only protects incoming attacks. I dont believe they protect againts outgoing (software caused) attacks as in software calling home or blaster type virii as software firewalls do. I guess I should ask this again though. I stopped using Zonealarm about two years ago when I finally broke down and bought a router for my home office. The router has a "firewall" in it and so I didn't see much sense (nor any pings any more). Are you guys using Zonealarm on computers inside a router / firewall, and if so are you seeing pings from outside the hardware firewall getting through? John W. Colby www.colbyconsulting.com
