[AccessD] Access development on the wane?

Hi Susan,

I am finding more and more (both with Excel and Access) that the dataset is stored in SQL Server and presented in either Access or Excel for the user. Where I work Access is mainly used as Front End to SQL Server and almost never as a stand-alone app. A lot of jobs here are now advertised with need some exposure to SQL Server.

SQL server has lots of raw grunt, but Access is a much faster and easier to set up as a UI with nice combo boxes and the like. Even so, nearly all the security, processing and queries are done on SQL Server and the data is just populated into the Access FE as required.

Maybe one day Microsoft will be like Lotus and lose the desktop apps market to someone else.

regards
Darryl.

Although I think Access is still healthy and will be around for a long time,
readers are contacting me privately with concerns. Some of them aren't
getting as much Access work as they use to.

I'm just curious -- what are the contractors on this list experiencing --
have you noticed a slow down in Access development?

Susan H.
