Hi Rocky, Had a similar problem recently when one of my databases that had worked without a hitch for ten years suddenly threw up that message. No-one has access to these machines but me - so I'm guessing a Windows service pack - had some strange problems with these... There's a lot of stuff about this error message on the various forums, usually relating to the read/write permissions of the folder containing the BE database. The FE machine needs to write to this BE machine/folder, creating lock files, etc. I tried every suggestion, especially making sure the permissions were in order - without success. In the end I decided life was too short and simply moved the BE to a different folder on the BE machine. Relinked the front end. Problem solved - been working fine ever since...
