[AccessD] Paint.net

Paint.Net looks like a nice program...I have never heard of it before.

I have to do reports over actual pictures of state documents.  Of course the
copy is very light.  Is 
it possible to darken the washed out text with Paint.net without also
darkening the background.  IOW 
increase the contrast but more than that actually make the grey more black?
