It's also worth noting that Churchill was referring to parliamentary democracy, as practised in Britain and Canada among others. By this definition, the USA is not a democracy but rather a republic, and there are several large differences. Ask William Hindman, if you doubt this, but for starters the relative weight of the fed vs. the states; the electoral college, and on the other side, the ability of political parties in Britain and Canada to replace their leaders at will, whether or not said leader is Prime Minister.
