Thanks for replying. When I attempt to log in to the server I get:

Server: Msg 4064, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.

Since it appears that I can now edit sprocs in Access, I'll work in that environment. Not that I wouldn't like to know what the problem is here.
