Julie, I don't understand why I am having the problem either. I have 4 machines with SQL Server loaded, both client and server parts. Soltek1 can be seen and registered from EVERY other machine. Some of the others can be SEEN by the others, but not registered. In all cases I get a "tempuser not authorized" kind of message (I'm not home at the moment so I can's tell you the exact message though I think it is one of the past messages). I do not understand the mechanics of registering a remote server so I can't really intelligently discuss any of this. All I know is that good old Soltek1 is available, and all the other machines can see it, and can register it. Most of the others can be found (are in the list of machines that can be registered) but the registration itself fails saying that I can't use the temp user. John W. Can't you just log onto SQL Server using the standard (although not very secure) SA account with a password to process your data. I don't understand where you are having the problem. Do you have the client tools installed on the client machines and are you logging in using Windows Auth. or SQL Auth.?
