Susan, If the DSL company checked the service to the outside of your house then it isn't BellSouth. If they blocked the signal it would have to be somewhere outside of your house. Ask for a new modem, they do break / can be defective. Don't they have an "install" service? My cable people wouldn't let me NOT have them install the service and the "install" was about $40. That would get the guy inside your house, installing the modem. If it fails he will throw his tester on it to see if he has signal to the modem (which is almost certain). BTW, the point of the "phone filter" is to filter out the buzz caused by the DSL signal. You can't run the DSL modem BEHIND (downstream of) such a filter. If you are putting the modem behind a filter, that will cause the modem to "not work". John W. We live in rural Kentucky. Cable and dsl stopped up the street for a long time. Finally, dsl was available via bellsouth and we signed on. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!! They cancelled my dialup, which I didn't ask them to do, and then when I used my dialup instead of dsl, they charged me an extra $20 a month for the privlege. I called and complained and the guy kept telling me that I upgraded, so that meant I didn't have dialup and I said, no, I never cancelled my $4 a month dialup so they could ding me $20 instead -- finally, he said, (and I'm not kidding) - "Lady, you ordered it, you're paying for it." Well, no, I didn't order their emergency dialup and I didn't want it -- I already had my own dialup. But, they simply usurped it and he actually told me I couldn't have my own dialup with dsl -- which is total nonsense. I was lucky to find a new phone and dsl carrier within a few weeks and I cancelled all of my bellsouth services -- which were running about $170 a month -- and I'm paying about half that now. The only problem is, now dsl won't work. The new service has checked the lines outside and they say it must be inside or the modem, which is one that they sent me and it's brand new. If I were of a conspiracy mind, I'd say bellsouth is doing something to interfer with the lines, because the coincidence is just so ... coincidential. :) And of course, because I HATE BELLSOUTH so much. Their customer service is really a form of torture. Trying to fix it was just consuming too much of my time. I already have filters on all the phone lines -- and the modem's the one the new service sent me, so the only option left is to let them come inside and test my lines inside, which cost almost $200 -- I don't want dsl that bad. Susan H. what the heck are you still doing on dialup? what dreadful place are you at? :) On 8/21/06, Susan Harkins <ssharkins at setel.com> wrote: > Thank you - -- that'll be useful. > > Susan H. > > You can always access it online at MSDN.. ;=) > > http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms130214.aspx > > > _______________________________________________ > dba-SQLServer mailing list > dba-SQLServer at databaseadvisors.com > http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-sqlserver > http://www.databaseadvisors.com > > -- -Francisco http://sqlthis.blogspot.com | Tsql and More... _______________________________________________ dba-SQLServer mailing list dba-SQLServer at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-sqlserver http://www.databaseadvisors.com -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
