Sorry - I did not express that very well! What I was trying to suggest is that (probably correctly for a server) the OS will not shut down if the SQL Server is still running and (possibly) serving data. I think you need to stop the SQL Server before you shut down the OS. I'm not a server guy, and it is Sunday morning in England but that's what I'd look at in your situation. Regards!
