Hi Liz, Do you have to design the Oracle db or just move the data? Moving the data should not be a huge problem, designing an Oracle db is as complex as you need to make it ;-) I assume you have Oracle experts to handle the Oracle side? IIRC Oracle has a migration wizard which is perhaps depending on your reqs one option. I'm not sure about 2005 but in 2000 it is fairly straightforward (or as straightforward as anything to do with Oracle can be) to build a DTS package to transfer data to Oracle. I imagine 2005 would be comperable. You will need to test rigorously as the Oracle datatypes will be slightly different. cheers Michael M -----Original Message----- From: dba-sqlserver-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-sqlserver-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Elizabeth.J.Doering at wellsfargo.com Sent: Monday, 14 May 2007 12:15 PM To: dba-sqlserver at databaseadvisors.com Subject: [dba-SQLServer] What have I done? Help! This has been making my stomach upset all weekend. In a meeting on Friday afternoon, I apparently agreed to do the following: Plan is to have Elizabeth Doering to build the initial analytic data load then we move it into production in the new shared Oracle database. What the heck did I agree to? This won't go into production until early next year, so I have time to learn something about Oracle in the meantime. I have built what will be the production database, no problems there, thanks to the help of this list, but the fact of moving the data to Oracle is freaking me out just a bit. I can build a script that would move the data from one SQL Server 2005 database to another, but what changes when the destination is Oracle?
