Well, if it happens to be a valid DHCP server, meaning one that the company
is actually using, then all clients that gets its IP address from it, also
has the IP address of the DHCP server.
WinNT: use ipconfig /all from command prompt
Win9x: use winipcfg

Then you can match the IP address of the DHCP server to a computer name
using WINS, if available.

Subject: [dba-Tech] discovering DHCP server

IIRC there's an easy way to discover which device on a notwork is acting as
a DHCP server - unfortunately the how part escapes me at the moment.

I'm working ground zero with a client who fired their last consultant and
has no idea what a DHCP server is let alone where it is. I need to locate it
so that I can turn it off and use another device to be DHCP server.

Any ideas? (besides checking every device on the network.)
