If it's an NT/2k/XP pc, the hard drives will be shared for admin use by default so you can scan the laptop from another pc by mapping to \\hostname\c$ etc (the dollar sign makes the sharename a "hidden" share so you can't browse to it, you HAVE to know it's there to access it). That's how we do it anyway. Well that and our AV system is McAfee 4.0.3 and you can download the updates and put them on a memory stick, straight onto the laptop. When a laptop has been out and about for a few weeks, and comes back into the office we won't let it on the network until it has had its virus defs updated and had a full virus scan. But it can only get on the internet via the netowrk, so how to get it up-to-date virus defs? What we do is download them (Symantec, using Intelligent Updater), put them on a CD, and update the laptop from that. Is this the normal/only/best/c**p way to do this? -- Andy Lacey http://www.minstersystems.co.uk ________________________________________________ Message sent using UebiMiau 2.7.2 _______________________________________________ dba-Tech mailing list dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com The information in this e-mail is confidential and may also be legally privileged.
