Yes, it was a completely new printer to the system. I'll have a look online
to see if I can find a proper uninstaller.

when you installed the new HP printer driver, did you uninstall the old one 
first?
I remember there is somewhere on HP I think an istruction to use a specific 
uninstall program to get rid of the old stuff.
also I remember having had problems with HP printer
