Well of course you can do what you want. I am looking at server equipment right now and I have to buy a new video card simply because the old video card socket doesn't even exist on a lot of the new motherboards, including the one I bought. Nasty shock when I couldn't even turn on my new machine. I just resist when the OS tells me I need a near-gaming quality card in order to boot. Say what? I routinely turn off all of that fancy crap that was in XP that slowed everything down. Even on my desk top I have no use for menus that take 1/2 second to slide down. Some brain damaged moron should have been colbyized (20000 feet, out the door without a parachute) for that one. And then they made that the default. MORONS! I haven't seen Vista mind you. Maybe they have that 3-d "killer app" that I will just HAVE to have. I'm betting it is just fancy desktop crap that just slows things down. I have seen the future... and by and large it was designed by morons. John W. I just feel that if your purchasing new equipment it probably doesn't cost that much more to get close to the bleeding edge, and who knows you might want it someday. For that you need 3D graphics and more memory. I'd look for a Vista compatible if I was replacing my cards.
