I second that. Both of them in fact :-) I build my own systems too, and I go for the fastest RAM and processor that I can afford (up to a point), and I've used Crucial for the last four systems that I've built, never had a problem. Touch wood :-) Jon -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Gary Kjos Sent: 07 April 2008 14:52 To: Discussion of Hardware and Software issues Subject: Re: [dba-Tech] upgrading RAM Any amount you add should make your system faster. Particularly if you have more than one thing open . I would try to go to a Gigabyte if you can swing it. I just ordered 2GB for my vista system to bring it to 4GB. I think it cost $40 from that Crucial site. In my case I wasn't unhappy with my current system performance but figured for $40 any speed improvement would be a good thing too. John Colby has given you some good info in his reply and since he builds his systems he is far better qualified than I on what works with what etc. I think at least 1GB is what I would try to get to if possible though..
