Is your startup issue with AVG because its ver. 8? 

This annoyance can be turned off in ver. 7.5

I'm in Langley in Slough, just near Heathrow Airport. We're actually
under the flightpath... When they had the big security thing here a few
years back, I had to drive past a tank and 10 armed soldiers on my way
to work. Fun :-)
