Hi Peter:

Check out the following link http://ubuntu/forms.org/showthread.php?t=202605

I like to keep my SAMBA configuration file (etc/samba/samba.conf) super
simple.

[global]
	;General Server settings
Netbios name = myStationName ; this is the name of your station
Workgroup = myWorkgroupName ; either the workgroup or domain
	Socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE
SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 ; There many options but these will cover it.

Name resolve order = host wins bcast
wins support = no ; I do not use it anymore... host is good enough

printing = CUPS ; all standard stuff so you can print across the LAN
	printcap name = CUPS

I have a XP, Window7, Debian Linux, Windows2008, Windows2003 and all connect
without issues.

And if you want to do some cross plaform sharing graphically check the
following out:

HTH
Jim

Subject: [dba-Tech] lan node name

Bill Gates's operating system is no less maddening than it was ten years
ago. Here's a home network with six nodes, four running Win, one running
Ubuntu desktop, and now a new one running Ubuntu server. From the Ubuntu
desktop node, I can ping the new Ubuntu server node by IP address and by
name. From the Windows nodes, though, I can ping it /by IP address
only/. Oy. What am I missing?
