[dba-Tech] C & D Partitions

I have a friend who just got a new Samsung netbook.  She was advised to
partition the disk into C and D, where the OS (W7) goes into the C
partition, and user data goes into the D partition.

But where do you install the applications?

And what is the actual value of using a C and a D partition?
