[dba-Tech] IE8

When I first opened IE8, I found it took a good half and hour to remove
enough security to make it useful. I just can not imagine a layman getting
the product working well enough to really enjoy it.

The one item of blocking JavaScript has always annoyed me. Considering that
MS ASP.Net would not run without JS, it seems strange.

This brings up a question that has had me wondering for years. There has
been an 'urban legend' that somehow a skilled programmer can make JS running
in a browser to actually access the host computer. I have spent days over
the last years trying to investigate the theory but never found any tangible
evidence.

Has anyone else found anything to confirm this theory?

On the other hand, IE8 seems like a very full package in its own right with
lots of interesting features to explorer... I would prefer to do a bit of
testing before launching it on any of my not so computer savvy clients.

Hi Andy,

I tried IE8 when MS first announced that that it was available several weeks
ago. When it first tried to run, I got a message that there was a security
review that needed to be done. So I had to download some software which
would take care of that. I did so, but then spent the rest of the day
recovering. It turned out that I had to reflash my BIOS to fully recover.
I'm sorry I don't remember more details but then again I've tried to forget.

If it asks you to run a security 'fixing' program, you may want to back out.

I haven't tried again since then.

Dan

Hi all

Any feedback on IE8? Should I or shouldn't I?

Andy
